Eden Hazard has the potential to emulate the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, according to former Belgium captain Eric Gerets.

The Blues playmaker has been in impressive form so far this season for Chelsea and was named the PFA young player of the year last term.

And ex-Belgium star Gerets feels that the 23-year-old has all the ingredients needed to reach the level of the Ballon d’Or winners.

“The future will show if he’s able to get on the same level as they [Messi and Ronaldo] are,” said Gerets.

“Even if he never makes it to the same level, just below them is still a world [class] player.

He added: “Even Messi needed a lot of time before he was the saviour of the national team. It didn’t happen for several years.

“You have to give Hazard more time. It will come. He has too much talent.”
