Debuchy, Morgan and more: Twitter reacts as Anderlecht stun Arsenal
Mathieu Debuchy and Piers Morgan both tweet their thoughts as Arsenal blow a three-goal lead against Anderlecht
Arsenal blew a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Anderlecht in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Gunners appeared to be cruising to victory in the Champions League group-stage clash as goals from Mikel Arteta, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave Wenger’s men a 3-0 lead.
But Anthony Vanden Borre reduced the deficit from close range before scoring a penalty, and Aleksandar Mitrovic equalised in the last minute to earn a 3-3 draw.
The dramatic game inevitably prompted plenty of activity on Twitter – and here are our favourite updates, in chronological order.
Lukas Podolski (@Podolski10) is looking forward to the game: “Champions league tonight !! Let’s go Gunners #MatchDay #ChampionsLeague #Poldi #Aha #Team #AFC #RedArmy.”
As is injured right-back Mathieu Debuchy (@MatDebuchy): “#arsand tonight! Come on guys!! Need to win again#Gunners”
The tweets start to fly in after the final whistle, prompting Jimmy Bullard (@jimmybullard) to chime in: “Arsenal fans – I reckon you need me right now. Let it all out!”
Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) is not happy: “And people wonder why I am so unhinged supporting Arsenal? Now you know. It’s torture. United fans got rid of Moyes in under a year. Arsenal fans have watched Wenger decline for a decade & do nothing. #afc”
But Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) is having none of it: “@piersmorgan: …shut up you moaning twit. He is best manager in PL.”
Michael Gray (@mickygray33) is in a cheeky mood: “I want to put a picture on my Instagram of how I feel about arsenal right now but not sure it’s a good idea.. @mickygray33”
And former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) is not a happy man: “Thanks Arsenal for once again screwing up my Vaughan Quad…. You really are useless… #Cheers #Keepthefaith”
