Edwin van der Saar was happy to hear David De Gea scooped the man of the match award after Manchester United were 2-1 winners at Arsenal.

The Spain international made eight saves as the Gunners registered 23 shots on the United goalkeeper’s goal at Emirates Stadium.

The Red Devils left north London with three points after Kieran Gibbs’s own goal and Wayne Rooney’s strike before Olivier Giroud netted a consolation.

And Red Devils legend Van der Sar was thrilled to see his successor in the United goal produce a match-winning performance against their top-four rivals.

The United goalkeeper De Gea took to Instagram on Saturday night to post a photo with Red Devils captain Wayne Rooney.

“Back home with 3 important points and a great player that never misses, @waynerooney #MUFC.”
