Former Liverpool defender criticises Brendan Rodgers’ summer signings
Steve Nicol isn't impressed with Liverpool's summer signings
Steve Nicol has demanded to know who is behind Liverpool’s disappointing summer signings.
The Reds have made an underwhelming start to the season following the £75m departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona in the transfer window.
The biggest question is actually, who is making the decisions on the signings?
Rodgers brought in eight new players but the likes of Mario Balotelli, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren have struggled since their moves to Anfield.
And former Liverpool defender Nicol believes the biggest problem this season hasn’t been the manager’s tactics but the club’s new signings.
“To say they’ve been a disappointment is an understatement,” Nicol told talkSPORT.
“[This season] has been an absolute disaster. There is only one man missing from the squad they had last year and that’s Luis Suarez, everybody else is still there.
“Something has gone wrong somewhere down the line. All this teamwork and all this chemistry they had last year has disappeared.
“The biggest question isn’t about Brendan’s tactics, which are questionable. The biggest question is actually, who is making the decisions on the signings?
“When you finish second in the Premier League and you have the amount of money Liverpool had to spend and you don’t spend it wisely that is the question I would be asking. Who signed these guys?”
