Rafael Benitez admits he misses his family in Liverpool, fuelling reports he could leave Napoli next summer.

The Spaniard’s current Napoli deal is set to expire at the end of the season, although Benitez is speculated to be in talks with the club over a contract.

My family are away from me, my wife and two daughters live in Liverpool. It’s the first time I haven’t had them with me, it’s not easy

Benitez, who spent five years at Liverpool before he was sacked in 2010, guided Napoli to Coppa Italia glory during his first season in charge at Stadio San Paolo.

And the 54-year-old manager is remaining coy on his long-term future at the Serie A side, admitting he misses his wife and two daughters who live in Liverpool.

“Experience tells me we have to work on the current project,” Benitez is quoted as saying.

“I often speak with Riccardo Bigon, and I always say to De Laurentiis that he must ensure the future of the club regardless of myself.

“The problem isn’t the renewal, but sharing the same vision, it’s not a question of money or signings.

“We need to work to see if we can win together going forward or not, and then we’ll see.

“My family are away from me, my wife and two daughters live in Liverpool. It’s the first time I haven’t had them with me, it’s not easy.

“De Laurentiis knows how important my family values are to me.”
Benitez guided Liverpool to the Champions League and FA Cup, as well as a second-place finish behind Manchester United in 2009.
