Hamann and more: Twitter reacts as Lambert scores first Liverpool goal

Jon Flanagan and Dietmar Hamann tweet their thoughts after Rickie Lambert's first Liverpool goal

Rickie Lambert repaid Brendan Rodgers’s faith at Selhurst Park as the Liverpool striker scored his first Reds goal.

The England international broke the deadlock in the second minute with his first strike since completing a £4m move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Here is a selection of our favourite Twitter reaction from the current and former professionals to Lambert’s opener in south-east London.

Former Saints defender Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05) reckons Lambert is more popular in the dressing room than Balotelli: “Lambert has a great opportunity today. I bet his team mates are desperate for him to succeed. Balotelli in my opinion divides dressing room

Tennis ace and Liverpool supporter Caroline Wozniacki (@CaroWozniacki) is cheering on her favourite team: “Yeeeaaaa!!! Let’s go Liverpool! #1-0 #ynwa”

A former team-mate of Lambert, Richard chaplow (@Rchap04): “Yeeeeeehhhhhh big Rickie”

Liverpool legend Terry McDermott (@TerryMac777) is delighted for the Scouser: “So happy for Rickie Lambert!! #lfc #scouser”

Ex-Reds striker Neil Mellor (@NeilMellor33) is thrilled to see Lambert seizing his opportunity: “What a start!! Quality pass Lallana to Lambert!! Deservedly getting a chance and showing so early why!”

Injured Liverpool full-back Jon Flanagan (@jon_flan93): “Get in Ricky lad”

Champions League winner Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) praises the striker’s technique: “Good finish by Lambert. Not the easiest ball to take down. Well done Rickie #LFC”

England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) is keeping an eye on the formula one and football: “Liverpool have started as well as Lewis Hamilton. Lambert, who’s taken the place of Balotelli, has scored.”

Finally, Luis Garcia (@LuchoGarcia14): “Reds 1 vs Cristal Palace 0 Lallana with a fantastic ball and Lambert great finish. #Wegoagain”
