Antonio Conte has blasted incorrect reports Mario Balotelli was sent home after the Liverpool striker reacted angrily to being named on the bench.

The 24-year-old Reds star left the Italy squad after picking up a groin injury during training ahead of their clash against Croatia on Sunday night.

But reports in Italy suggested that Balotelli clashed with the Azzurri manager after Conte didn’t select the Liverpool man in his starting line-up.

But speaking to Rai Sport, the former Juventus manager stressed that Balotelli was injury, refusing to elaborate on the severity of the problem.

“I’ll keep Balotelli’s evaluation to myself. It’s the same with Alessio Cerci. Now that’s enough.

“There are effectively too many injuries. I talked to [team doctor Enrico] Castellacci and next time we’ll be more careful and we won’t do certain things.”

Balotelli has scored two goals in 13 appearances in all competitions following a £16m move to Anfield from AC Milan in August.
