Jose Mourinho admits that Chelsea’s brilliant start to the season is beginning to remind him of some of his title-winning sides.

The Blues stretched their unbeaten start to the season to 12 games on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge.

The victory moved Mourinho’s men seven points clear at the top of the table – and the Portuguese coach says that his side’s brilliant form should serve them in good stead.

“Maybe Madrid, when we got to 100 points in the league.” Mourinho said when asked if his side had ever had such a good start to a campaign. “I don’t remember but maybe that one.

“Maybe the second season at Chelsea when we won the title for the second time. I think we also had a very good start to that season.”

Mourinho continued: “I cannot compare teams that won everything with teams that have won nothing. This team have won nothing. The other team finished a couple of years ago, we have John [Terry] and Didier [Drogba] and nothing else.

“These guys have to win if they want to be seen as a great team, it’s not about playing beautiful football or being autumn champions.

“They have to win titles. But when I use ‘beautiful’ in relation to the football we played in the first half [against West Brom] I think we all agree.”

Can Chelsea stay unbeaten?
