Jose Mourinho says he has no regrets about Chelsea’s failed bid to bring Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to Stamford Bridge.

Enhanced odds: Liverpool or draw @ 5/1 or Chelsea @ 6/1!

The Blues attempted to lure the former England international to west London following the Reds’s Champions League triumph in 2005.

Gerrard appeared to be on the brink of a £32.5m switch to Chelsea before a last-minute change of heart saw the midfielder sign a new Reds deal.

And Chelsea manager Mourinho, whose side face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, doesn’t hold any grudges, describing the 34-year-old as a Reds legend.

“[I have] no regrets,” Mourinho said. “He is having a fantastic career in his club, and he has an option to stay for life in the same club, become a legend of his home town club.

“I think it’s a very respectful decision. I was never upset with that kind of option. No way.”

Gerrard has won the Champions League, the Uefa Cup, two FA Cups and three League Cups during his Liverpool career.

Did Steven Gerrard make the right decision?
