Jose Mourinho has revealed that he thoroughly enjoys the hectic Premier League festive schedule, despite its demanding nature.

The English top flight is one of the only European leagues not to have a winter break over the Christmas and new year period.

And the Chelsea boss, whose side are currently top of the Premier League table and yet to lose a game this season, is looking forward to the busy period.

Mourinho said: “It’s something I love, it’s very difficult for me but especially for the players and their bodies, but it’s a beautiful period. I look forward to the marathon Christmas period.

“It’s a different phase, yes, but it doesn’t mean we can train more. In fact, the number of matches is so high that the days in between games are so few it doesn’t improve our training programme, but we know what we have and the good thing in England is it’s the same for everyone.

“When you go to the second part of the season and some English teams are hopefully in the Champions League and Europa League, these teams will pay the consequence of such a different winter compared to other countries.”

Who will be top of the table on New Year’s day?
