Lucas Levia has confirmed that Napoli wanted to sign the Liverpool midfielder in the summer transfer window.

The Brazil international was linked with a move away from the Merseyside outfit after falling out-of-favour under Brendan Rodgers.

The 27-year-old has struggled to make any inroads this season, too, making just three Premier League appearances.

Former Liverpool manager and current Napoli boss Rafael Benitez, who brought Lucas to Anfield in 2007, has been linked with the South American.

And Lucas appeared to hint that he could leave the 18-time English champions in the January transfer window if he can’t secure first-team football at the Reds.

“Over the summer there was interest from Napoli, along with other clubs,” Lucas told Brazilian newspaper Lancenet.

“Benitez has again asked to sign me. My objective for now is to play consistently. We’ll see in future.”

Lucas helped Liverpool win the League Cup in 2012.
