Liverpool transfers: Mark Lawrenson wants three Reds signings
Mark Lawrenson reckons Liverpool need goalkeeper, defensive midfielder and striker
Mark Lawrenson believes Liverpool need to sign a goalkeeper, defensive midfielder and striker in January.
The Reds are in 11th place and four points adrift of fourth-placed West Ham United after Chelsea became the fifth side to beat Brendan Rodgers’s men in the Premier League this season.
The Reds definitely need another top-line goalkeeper to put pressure on Simon Mignolet
And former Liverpool defender Lawrenson reckons the Merseyside outfit need to address three areas if Rodgers gets money to spend in the January transfer window.
“Already thoughts are turning to January and who we can bring in to bolster our squad,” Lawrenson wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“Even if Divock Origi is brought back from Lille, the Reds still need another striker.
“But they will be looking for the same as any other leading club – a forward who is quick and scores goals.
“The options are limited. I’d keep Mario Balotelli. There’s no point getting rid of him as he will definitely have a role.
Lawrenson continued: “But where else can we strengthen?
“The Reds definitely need another top-line goalkeeper to put pressure on Simon Mignolet.
“And the success of Nemanja Matic at Chelsea and Alex Song at West Ham indicates a proper defensive midfielder is again en vogue.
“If Brendan Rodgers doesn’t fancy Lucas, he should have one on his shopping list.”
