Rafael Benitez says Napoli won’t be ending Mario Balotelli’s Liverpool nightmare.

The Italy international has failed to score in nine Premier League appearances following his £16m move to Liverpool from AC Milan.

Balotelli has scored in the Champions League and League Cup for the Reds, but the 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from Anfield.

Napoli were touted as a potential destination for the controversial striker, whilst his former club, Inter Milan, were reported to be another interest party.

However, Napoli manager Benitez is adamant the Coppa Italia holders won’t be making an offer for Balotelli, backing the Liverpool fans to get behind the striker.

“Liverpool fans are loyal – if he works in the field then they will support him,” Benitez is quoted as saying.

“Mario coming to us in January though? There is absolutely nothing to this, it is just a hypothesis that I have never considered.”
