Ryan Giggs has revealed that Louis van Gaal shares a number of similarities with former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Dutchman was appointed as the Red Devils’ new manager on a three-year deal over the summer after David Moyes’ doomed reign at Old Trafford.

And Giggs, who is Van Gaal’s assistant manager at the club, says that the former Barcelona boss reminds him of Ferguson.

“He demands that in every training session,” Giggs told BBC Radio 5 live. “He wants the same intensity as if it was a game.

“There are a lot of similarities to Sir Alex. He sets standards and if you drop below them he is not happy.”

Former midfielder Giggs also revealed that he is open to leaving Manchester United in order to further his coaching career.

“I’ve been at the club for so long that I’m familiar with the club, but if I want to further my coaching career or managing career and if it’s not at Manchester United then so be it but I’ll just have to wait and see,” Giggs added.
