Lionel Messi has given Manchester United a glimmer of hope of pulling off a sensational swoop for the Barcelona star.

The 27-year-old has spent his whole career at Barcelona but despite indicating his desire to stay at Camp Nou, the four-time Ballon d’Or winner has now hinted that he could leave the Spanish club.

We’ll see. Football takes many turns…

United and Paris Saint-Germain were both reported to have shown an interest in signing Messi last summer.

Arsenal, United and derby rivals Manchester City have all been touted as possible Premier League destinations for the Argentina captain should he leave Barca.

And when asked whether he was considering a move elsewhere this week, Messi told Ole: “No, today I live in the present. I want to make a great year and win titles with Barcelona. And nothing more.

“Then we’ll see. Football takes many turns… While I always said that I would always stay there, sometimes not everything happens the way you want.

“I’ve said it many times: if I had my way I would stay forever. But as I just said, it’s not always given that you get everything you like.

“More so in football, which is constantly changing and so many things happen. It’s complicated.”

Will Lionel Messi move to the Premier League next summer?
