Man United transfers: Paul Lambert blasts Ron Vlaar’s agent
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert insists the club want to keep Ron Vlaar
Paul Lambert has criticised Ron Vlaar’s agent for making public a breakdown in talks between Aston Villa and the centre-half.
The 29-year-old defender is set to become a free agent at the end of the season amid reported interest from Manchester United.
We’ve put our foot forward on that front and I’m annoyed that the agent said the ball is in our court
Vlaar’s agent claimed that the Birmingham side have made no efforts to open talks with the Dutch defender over a new contract.
However, Villa manager Lambert hit back at Arnold Oosterveer, underlining his desire to keep the experienced centre-half at the club.
“I saw his agent’s comments and I think he has been a tad over the top,” said Lambert. “We have been speaking to Ron and the agent said ‘thanks but no thanks’ basically.
“You shouldn’t wash dirty laundry in public. I’m not blaming Ron – he’s been great. We’re trying our best to keep him – we’d love to keep him. We’ve put our foot forward on that front and I’m annoyed that the agent said the ball is in our court.”
