Carlo Ancelotti believes that Angel di Maria is often wasteful in possession.

The Italian manager saw the Argentina international leave Real Madrid to join Manchester United in a £59.7m deal in the summer following the arrival of James Rodriquez at the Bernabeu.

And although the Madrid boss accepts that Di Maria could “take matches by storm” he feels that the 26-year-old is often guilty of losing possession too easily.

“People should think twice before saying that James can fill Di Maria’s boots, because they’re very different players,” Ancelotti told Radio Onda Cero.

“Di Maria could take matches by storm with his energy, but he also used to lose control sometimes, misplacing important passes.”

Di Maria has scored three goals and made five assists in nine Premier League games for United so far this season.
