Louis van Gaal says he admires the way Arsenal play ahead of Manchester United’s trip to The Emirates on Saturday.

The Red Devils manager is set to face Arsene Wenger’s Gunners side for the second time in his long managerial career.

I admire the way they play because it’s attacking and you play for the fans

And Van Gaal, whose side are a point behind sixth-placed Arsenal, isn’t fazed by the rivalry between the two Premier League giants.

“It’s the first time I’ve sat on the bench against Arsenal as Manchester United coach,” Van Gaal is quoted as saying.

“I’ve only played once against Arsenal with Barcelona. Wenger was on the bench and was already eight years [into the job] with Arsenal.

“I admire the way they play because it’s attacking and you play for the fans. I think that’s nice. About the rivalry, it’s normal in sport.”

Van Gaal added that United centre-half Jonny Evans won’t be part of his match day squad for the trip to north London.

“Evans is coming back. I think he’ll play in the second squad,” said Van Gaal.

“The other players are not coming back. When they are coming back they need two weeks’ training. You have to build up [your fitness].”
