Louis van Gaal will stick with Robin van Persie this season despite his inconsistent form for Manchester United, according to Matt Le Tissier.

The 31-year-old striker has failed to put in consistent performances for the Red Devils this term and has only managed three goals in 11 league games for Van Gaal’s side.

But former Southampton star and Sky Sports pundit Le Tissier believes that Van Gaal is likely to stick with Van Persie because he “trusts” the striker.

”It hasn’t been a stellar season for him so far and I imagine his performances will have to improve quite a lot over the rest of the season to warrant still being at United next season.

“Then again he does have a manager whom he likes and has trusted him with captaincy in the past.

“From that point of view, he will be cut a little more slack than the others will get.”
