Marouane Fellaini has helped Man United find rhythm, says Arsenal legend
Martin Keown says Marouane Fellaini needs to start at The Etihad
Marouane Fellaini has helped Manchester United find rhythm, according to Arsenal legend Martin Keown.
The Belgium international was restored to the United line-up for their recent stalemates with West Bromwich Albion and Chelsea.
United have finally found some rhythm and the system seems to be improving
In particular, the 26-year-old, who was a scapegoat of David Moyes’s doomed reign, impressed as he marked Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas out of last Sunday’s game.
And former Arsenal centre-half Keown reckons Fellaini has helped Louis van Gaal find an effective system at the 20-time English champions.
“Watching Marouane Fellaini at the World Cup, he did well operating in a midfield three,” Keown wrote in his Daily Mail column.
“In his last two United games he has played in a similar role – on the side of a diamond that can become a three. He looked much better for it.
“It’s a role that allows him to break forward from deep but also help out and cover when needed. United have finally found some rhythm and the system seems to be improving, but the problem now for Van Gaal is picking out his best XI.”
