Mesut Ozil took to Twitter on Wednesday night to congratulate Arsenal for a “superb” 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Arsene Wenger’s men booked their place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition thanks to goals from Yaya Sanogo and Alexis Sanchez at Emirates Stadium.

And Ozil, who is currently recovering from a knee injury, could not hide his delight at seeing his team-mate secure the three points against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Ozil tweeted: “Well-deserved win, great rematch, qualified for the round of sixteen – what a perfect evening. Superb performance, Gunners!”

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was also thrilled, tweeting: “Great performance and result tonight. Buzzing that we’ve qualified! #AFC #ChampionsLeague.”

Ozil, who helped Germany win the World Cup in Brazil this summer, is currently sidelined with a knee injury he picked up at the start of October.

He said earlier this month that he expects to be sidelined until late December at the earliest.
