‘Michael Carrick better than Man United summer signing Daley Blind’
Tony Gale rates Michael Carrick higher than Daley Blind
Michael Carrick is a better player than Daley Blind, according to former England international Tony Gale.
The experienced Manchester United midfielder made his first appearance of the season as he was drafted in to replace Chris Smalling following the defender’s red card in the derby.
It is great to see Michael back because he is better than Daley Blind
Carrick was unable to help the Red Devils avoid defeat as Argentina international Sergio Aguero scored a second-half winner against 10-man United at The Etihad.
The 33-year-old could be forced to play at centre-half for the clash against Crystal Palace with Marcos Rojo, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones injury doubts, while Smalling is suspended.
But former Hammers defender Gale reckons Carrick should be able to bolster the United midfield, adding that the former Spurs man is a better option than £16m signing Blind.
“It was just a makeshift defence,” Gale told Sky Sports News.
“Michael Carrick has played their before.
“It is great to see Michael back because he is better than Daley Blind without a shadow of a doubt.
“He can go into that position or can play a holding role.”
Carrick has won five Premier League titles, the Champions League and three League Cups during a decorated seven-year career at Old Trafford.
