Michael Carrick: How David De Gea has grown at Man United
The Manchester United midfielder has been impressed by the goalkeeper's development
David De Gea has developed into one of the world’s best goalkeepers at Manchester United, according to Michael Carrick.
The 24-year-old Spaniard has put a difficult start to life at Old Trafford behind him in recent months and has been one of the Premier League’s top shot-stoppers.
And United midfielder Carrick has heaped praise on the goalkeeper, who joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011, for the way he has adapted to life with the Red Devils.
“He’s grown as a player. When he first came here, it was easy to forget how young he was,” Carrick told United’s website.
“To be number one here at such a young age, he dealt with it unbelievably well. He had a tough first year but, in some ways, that probably helped him even more in coming through that.
“He’s just grown in stature – you can see in his demeanour and presence that he’s matured and just turned into one of the best goalkeepers around.”
