The former England captain congratulates his current skipper
John Terry has described Wayne Rooney as one of the most talented team-mates of his career as the Chelsea defender congratulated the striker on 100 England caps.
The 29-year-old forward is set to become England’s ninth centurion on Saturday night when Roy Hodgson’s side face Slovenia in their Euro 2016 qualifier at Wembley.
Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard have all reached the milestone over the past two years, while Terry felt just short of a century of England appearances.
But the Chelsea centre-half holds no resentment, taking to Instagram on Saturday morning to pay tribute to the England and Manchester United captain.
Terry wrote on Instagram: “Good luck @waynerooney playing your 100th game for England. One of the best players I have had the pleasure to play with. #legend”
Rooney has scored 43 goals in 99 appearances, leaving the Red Devils striker in fourth place behind Sir Bobby Charlton, Gary Lineker and Jimmy Greaves.
