Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney takes to Instagram to gee up his team for Gunners clash
Wayne Rooney has lost none of his appetite for club football, judging from his social media presence this morning.
The England captain scored on his 100th appearance for his country last Saturday evening to lead them to a 3-1 victory and continue their perfect start to Euro 2016 qualifying.
He then followed up with his 45th and 46th international goals in a friendly against Scotland on Tuesday, as he closes in on Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time record of 49 England strikes.
This weekend, however, brings a return to club football, as Rooney leads his Manchester United team out against Arsenal in the Saturday evening kick-off.
The Red Devils currently sit seventh in the league, and will overtake the Gunners with a win.
But while Ángel di María, David de Gea and Michael Carrick should be fit for the game, Daley Blind will miss out with a knee injury sustained on international duty.
And Rooney has taken to Instagram to post a picture of himself celebrating a goal at Old Trafford, with the caption: “Big game tomorrow @manchesterunited”.
Rooney might have been well advised to choose another photograph, however – while it is a striking image of celebration, the game from which it was taken, against Swansea City in August, resulted in a 2-1 defeat for his team.
