Mario Balotelli and Jordan Henderson appeared to be in high spirits as Liverpool trained ahead of their clash against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Reds are bidding to win their first Premier League game in three outings as the leaders make the trip to Anfield in the weekend’s first kick-off.

Brendan Rodgers was criticised on Tuesday night after the Liverpool manager fielded a weakened side for their 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Howver, the Northern Irishman will put together a strong side for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s men, who drew 1-1 with Maribor in Slovenia on Wednesday.

Liverpool are meeting Chelsea for the first time since the west London side were 1-0 winners at Anfield in April, allowing Manchester City to move ahead of the Reds in the title race.

Rodgers’s side failed to overhaul the Citizens, who finished two points clear of the Merseyside outfit to win their second Premier League title.

And here is a selection of the best photos from Liverpool’s training session on Thursday.
