Gareth Bale appears to be in contention to face Liverpool in the Champions League after the Real Madrid forward trained with the rest of his team-mates on Monday.

The Wales international has missed the Spanish side’s last five games since the international break after the former Spurs man picked up a buttock muscle injury.

Bale was denied the opportunity to make his return to the Premier League as Carlo Ancelotti’s side were 3-0 winners at Liverpool in the reverse fixture last month.

But the 25-year-old is back training with the rest of the Madrid squad after los Blancos were emphatic 4-0 winners at Granada on Saturday, securing top spot in La Liga.

Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock in the second minute before James Rodriguez bagged a brace and Karim Benzema continued his fine form.

Asked about Bale’s importance to Madrid on Friday, Ancelotti replied: ““Bale deserves to play. He is one of the best players in the world and a very important player for this team.”

And here is a selection of the best photos from Madrid’s training session.
