Roger Federer beat Richard Gasquet in straight sets to clinch the Swiss’s first-ever title on Sunday.
The mobile phone network crashed due to the sheer number of fans as the celebrations continued in Wawrinka’s home-town.
Speaking after the final win, Federer said: “At the end it’s a tennis match. You feel great emotions. You’re unbelievably happy and relieved.
“We wanted this clearly very badly, especially being up 2-1. You inch yourself closer and closer. Clearly seeing Stan [Wawrinka] out there, the rest of the team supporting you, you push extra.”
