Ryan Mason hails Tottenham Hotspur’s ‘great character’
Ryan Mason says Tottenham Hotspur showed 'persistence' at Villa Park
Ryan Mason has praised Tottenham Hotspur’s persistence after Spurs dug deep to come from behind and beat Aston Villa on Sunday.
Nacer Chadli cancelled out Andreas Weimann’s opener at Villa Park before substitute Harry Kane scored a free-kick on the stroke of full-time to seal a 2-1 win.
Although we didn’t play the greatest of football, we showed great character
And Spurs midfielder Mason praised the north London side for showing great character to collect three points after a disappointing run of results in recent weeks.
“The difference was persistence and sticking to what we believe in,” Mason told Tottenham’s website.
“Last week against Newcastle we went a bit ragged in the last half-hour but we kept playing at Villa, the subs came on and made an impact and in the end it was a good feeling.
“It was important to get back to winning ways. As players we all stressed that to each other and although we didn’t play the greatest of football, we showed great character.
“We knew we could turn it around. Harry is on fire at the minute and it was written in the stars for him to score.”
