Matt Holland says Mauricio Pochettino needs to be given time to implement his ideas at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spurs manager, who signed a five-year deal in May, is coming under increasing pressure after his side suffered their fourth home defeat of the Premier League season.

But former Republic of Ireland international Holland is adamant that Pochettino must be given plenty of time to transform the north London side unlike his predecessors.

“It is important that the manager gets time,” Holland told Sky Sports News.

“They identified him because of the job he did at Southampton. He built this high-pressing team. Previous managers haven’t been given long enough.

“They need to give Pochettino time to develop his style and his coaching philosophy onto this team and we’ll see how they develop over the coming years.”

Tottenham are 12th in the Premier League table behind rivals Everton and Liverpool.
