Angel di Maria has all but been ruled out of Manchester United’s match with Stoke City on Tuesday with a suspected hamstring strain.

The Argentina international was substituted in the 14th minute of Saturday’s 3-0 win over Hull City at Old Trafford after picking up the problem.

Captain Wayne Rooney also limped off late in the game and manager Louis van Gaal was unsure about the England international’s status.

“Angel shall be out for Stoke, I think,” Van Gaal told MUTV after the game.

“Wayne, I don’t know. He said he would be fit for Stoke. I hope he is because he is in great form.”

Goals from Chris Smalling, Rooney and Robin van Persie handed Van Gaal’s men victory at Old Trafford and kept them fourth in the table.
