Louis van Gaal has played down the suggestion that Manchester United midfielder Daley Blind could be sidelined for six months due to a knee injury.

The Red Devils’s official Twitter account had posted that the Netherlands international was set to be out-of-action for up to six months after suffering the problem on international duty.

While United manager Van Gaal confirmed the £16m summer signing is wearing a brace on his knee, the Red Devils won’t know more until the midfielder’s next scan in 10 days.

“He has a brace on his knee,” said Van Gaal. “After 10 days’ rest, he’ll have another scan that will say more about the injury.”

Van Gaal added: “It’s not as bad as the doctors thought after the match, but it shall be a long story, I believe, not six months or something.”

The 63-year-old Red Devils manager added that Luke Shaw is a slight doubt for the trip to The Emirates on Saturday after picking up a hamstring problem during England’s 3-1 win against Scotland.

Van Gaal added that Angel di Maria and David De Gea would be fine to face Arsenal in north London on Saturday.
