Wayne Rooney has hailed England’s “great end” to 2014 after the Three Lions were 3-1 winners against Scotland earlier this week.

Roy Hodgson’s squad have endured a mixed year, flopping at this summer’s World Cup as England finished bottom of their group behind Costa Rica, Uruguay and Italy.

However, England have made a 100 per cent start to their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, netting 11 times and conceding one goal in four outings.

And England captain Rooney was still buzzing following their 3-1 victory over bitter rivals Scotland at Celtic Park on Tuesday night.

“Great end of the year for @england. Get in!” Rooney wrote on Instagram.

Rooney was made England and Manchester United captain this season after Steven Gerrard retired from international football and Nemanja Vidic joined Inter Milan.
