Mario Balotelli may be struggling to find the net in the Premier League, but the Italy international appears to be producing the flicks and tricks at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground.

The Italy international extended his goalless run in the top-flight to eight games on Saturday as he failed to score in a 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

However, Balotelli looked in fine form ahead of the trip to the Magpies judging by the clip above of the 24-year-old striker back-heeling a shot between Brad Jones’ legs and into the goal.

The former Manchester City striker has scored two goals in 13 appearances in all competitions following his £16m move to Liverpool from AC Milan in August.

On Monday evening, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers defended the performances of his struggling summer signing ahead of their clash at Real Madrid tomorrow.

“Mario is working very hard and like we ask of all our players he is doing his very best. He is doing that,” Rodgers said.

“He hasn’t got the goals that he would have liked and we would. But in terms of him adapting to what we’re doing and working hard, he is doing that.

“He just needs to focus on continuing to give his very best for the football club.”
