Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update after Dortmund win

Mikel Arteta and Yaya Sanogo both suffered injuries in Arsenal's win over Borussia Dortmund

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mikel Arteta suffered a “quite serious” calf problem during Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

The Gunners booked their place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition after goals from Yaya Sanogo and Alexis Sanchez sealed victory at Emirates Stadium.

However, both Arteta and Sanogo were forced off in the second half of the Champions League win.

And asked about both players after the game, Wenger said: “The injury situation is a problem because we have many games and we lost two players tonight.

“The first one is Mikel Arteta who has another calf problem and that looks quite serious. We also lost Yaya Sanogo to a hamstring problem.”

Wenger also revealed that midfielder Jack Wilshere is set to see a specialist on Thursday to assess the extent of the ankle injury he picked up against Manchester United.

“Wilshere sees a specialist tomorrow. We’ll know more tomorrow night,” he said.

Asked of Wilshere will require surgery, Wenger added: “I don’t know, the specialist will decide that.”
