Wenger gives latest Arsenal injury update after Anderlecht draw
Arsene Wenger reveals that Mikel Arteta has picked up a hamstring injury during Arsenal's 3-3 draw with Anderlecht
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mikel Arteta is set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with Anderlecht.
The Arsenal captain, who scored from the penalty spot to give his side the lead in the first half of the Champions League clash at Emirates Stadium, was substituted in the 62nd minute after picking up the problem.
Wenger said after the game: “He has done a hamstring. I don’t know what is wrong or how long he will be out for.”
The Frenchman, whose side need a point from their last two games to qualify for the last 16, continued: “I think when we lost Mikel Arteta we lost out because he was one of the few who defended well. That didn’t help.
“Apart from that maybe we underestimated subconsciously Anderlecht and got punished.
“In the Champions League you need to be at the mental level or you get punished and certainly we were not.”
