Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Christmas warning for Chelsea
The Arsenal midfielder feels that the Blues are set for a stern examination over the Christmas period
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has warned Chelsea that they are in for a stern examination of their title credentials over the hectic festive period.
The Blues maintained their place at the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as they continued their unbeaten start.
And although the Arsenal midfielder has been impressed by Jose Mourinho’s men this term, he wants the Gunners to be ready to pounce should they slip up.
“There’s no doubt that they’ve showed they’re a quality side,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told BT Sport. “They’ve got a good manager, they’re well organised and they’re hard to beat.
“They’ve got players in their team that can pop up and create a moment – Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard or Diego Costa can provide a goal at any moment,
“They have got the making of a strong team but it is a really long season. This time last year we found ourselves in a similar position to them, leading the league, and we saw how that can fall away over Christmas or a short space of time.
“For me, I’m not concentrating too much on Chelsea. You never know, they might drop off, and if they do, we need to make sure we’re back in, following them closely with getting results and trying to climb up the table.”
