Andre Villas-Boas reveals that he held talks with Liverpool in 2012 before he took over at Tottenham
Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he held talks with Liverpool before he took over at Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.
The Portuguese coach took charge at White Hart Lane in July 2012 after being sacked as Chelsea boss in March of the same year.
Liverpool, meanwhile, drafted in current boss Brendan Rodgers as Kenny Dalglish’s successor in May 2012.
And Villas-Boas, who is now in charge of Zenit Saint-Petersburg after being sacked by Spurs last December, says he held talks with the Merseyside club before they opted to appoint Rodgers.
“I chose Zenit also to get away from the media glare,” said Villas-Boas. “I’ve had my fill of media sensationalism and false promises.
“I had talks with Liverpool. Returning to England definitely not in my plans, although life takes many turns.
“Coaching in England was a positive experience, but also many negative things happened.”
