Aaron Ramsey was full of praise for Alexis Sanchez after the Chile international’s late goal handed Arsenal a crucial 1-0 victory over Southampton.

The Saints battled hard and largely kept the Gunners at bay until the closing stages of the game, and Ramsey’s low cut-back was turned in by the Chile international for his ninth Premier League goal of the season in the 89th minute at Emirates Stadium.

“He never gives up,” Ramsey said of Sanchez. “He was in the right place in the right time again.

“It took until the 85th minute to break them down but we did it in the end.”

The victory, Arsenal’s second in the row in the league, left the Gunners sixth in the table on 23 points.

“We never go into a game wanting to draw it, we always want to try and win the game,” Ramsey continued.

“It took until the latter stages of the game but we kept going, kept believing and it finally paid off.”
