Perry Groves says Arsenal are just two players away from challenging for the Premier League title.

The Gunners are a staggering 15 points behind pace-setters Chelsea after the north London side squandered a lead to draw 2-2 with 10-man Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Hopefully Arsene Wenger goes into January market because we’re two players away from challenging for the Premier League title

But former Arsenal winger Groves reckons the Gunners can challenge Chelsea and Manchester City if Arsene Wenger signs a centre-half and an imposing defensive midfielder.

“After they won the FA Cup against Hull, I thought they’d go onto the next level,” Groves told The Sport Review speaking on behalf of Chillisauce.

“Everyone knows we need to get a centre-half and a defensive midfield player, who is about 6ft 2ins, athletic and very physical.

“Hopefully Arsene Wenger goes into January market because we’re two players away from challenging for the Premier League title.”

Groves, who won two top-flight titles during a six-year career at Highbury, reckons Wenger would placate dissenting Arsenal fans if the 65-year-old addressed the weaknesses in his squad.

“Arsenal fans have got to be careful what they wish for because Arsene has been there 18 seasons and we’ve been above Tottenham for 18 seasons. So we’ve kept them quiet, which is great,” Groves added.

“The frustration is now we’ve managed to get the stadium paid off and we’re a cash-rich club, Arsenal fans want to see that investment go onto the players on the pitch.

“But Arsene won’t pay over the odds for a player. Hopefully in January, Arsenal will buy those two players [centre-half and defensive midfielder] and that will keep the fans happy.”
