Arsenal legend questions why Laurent Koscielny is on the bench
Ian Wright leads the Arsenal inquiry on Twitter after terrible first half at Stoke
Ian Wright has questioned why Laurent Koscielny was left on the bench on Saturday after Stoke City stormed into a 3-0 lead against Arsenal at The Britannia.
The Gunners had recorded back-to-back Premier League wins, including consecutive clean sheets, after the France international was restored to the side ahead of their trip to the Potter this afternoon.
Koscielny missed the best part of two months due to an Achilles injury, and presumably in a move to protect his centre-half, manager Arsene Wenger opted to start Calum Chambers and Per Mertesacker at centre-half.
However, Stoke forward Peter Croch, Bojan and Jonathan Walters each bagged a goal in the opening 45 minutes to leave Mark Hughes’s side comfortably in charge against their top-four chasing opponents.
And Arsenal legend Wright led the Arsenal inquiry on Twitter at half-time, as Gunners fans despaired with their inconsistent players.
Wright wrote: “Really? really Arsenal!”
The tweet prompted Ryder Cup hero and Arsenal fan Ian Poulter to write to the former striker, “What the $€%^ is that crap were watching @IanWright0 it’s embarrassing from an Arsenal side. True test of a team is how they respond…”
Wright replied: “If Koscielny is fit why is he on the bench ? Surely we need our most experienced CB in a game like this!!!!”
