Arsenal’s Lukas Podolski getting back to his best, says Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger is happy with competition for places in his Arsenal squad
Arsene Wenger says Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski is starting to get back to his best.
The Germany international scored in the third minute to break the deadlock against Turkish champions Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Aaron Ramsey netted either side of half-time before Podolski scored a stoppage-time strike to seal a 4-1 victory for the north London side in Group D.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted the 29-year-old striker, who has been linked with a move away from The Emirates, is providing a selection headache.
“It is competition for places that is difficult,” Wenger told Arsenal’s website. “I had [Danny] Welbeck, [Alexis] Sanchez and [Olivier] Giroud at home and you can only play a certain number of strikers.
“He came back later from the World Cup but he is now coming back to a very strong level.”
Podolski has scored three goals in five Champions League appearances this season.
