Arsenal’s Sanchez better value than Di Maria, claims ex-Man United star

Alexis Sanchez has proven better value than Angel di Maria, according to Michael Owen.

The Chile international has scored seven goals in his last seven games in all competitions after the £35m signing had made a slow start to his Gunners career.

Di Maria had a telling impact in the initial weeks following his £59.7m switch to Manchester United from Real Madrid, but the Argentine hasn’t scored since the start of October.

And former Red Devils striker Owen believes the former Barcelona star and prolific Chelsea forward Diego Costa are two of the best buys in the summer transfer window.

“I think him and Costa look real value for money. I’d say those two were better value than the likes of Di Maria and Rodriguez,” Owen wrote on Sportlobster.

Owen added that United made a mistake selling Danny Welbeck to Arsenal in a £16m deal on transfer deadline day.

“No. I think United’s current crop of strikers are the here and now. In 2 or 3 years they will need to reinvest a huge amount for their next star striker so I’d prefer to have seen a staggered approach in terms of age of strikers,” Owen said.

“I’ve no doubt he’s got the quality to score goals for a top team. To be blunt, I would have kept Welbeck and not signed Falcao.”
