Arsene Wenger says Arsenal missed “outstanding” centre-half Laurent Koscielny.

The France international helped the Gunners seal a 1-0 victory over top-four rivals Southampton at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old centre-half has played a vital role as the north London side racked up successive clean sheets against West Brom and the Saints.

And Arsenal manager Wenger was quick to lavish praise on the Gunners defender after Koscielny made his return from an Achilles problem at the Hawthorns.

“Laurent Koscielny was absolutely outstanding today and he contributes to stabilise our defence,” the Wenger said.

“We missed him for nearly two months and it’s important.”

Koscielny has scored nine goals in 127 Premier League appearances since moving to Arsenal from Lorient.
