Arsene Wenger grateful for Arsenal fans’ Emirates chant
Arsene Wenger thanks Arsenal fans for their support after convincing win over Newcastle
Arsene Wenger thanked Arsenal fans for their support after watching his side return to winning ways in the Premier League with an impressive 4-1 win over Newcastle.
Olivier Giroud gave the Gunners the lead in the 15th minute with a towering header, before Santi Cazorla made it 2-0 with a fine finish 10 minutes after half-time.
Giroud then made it 3-0 with a neat finish from close range before the visitors pulled one back through Ayoze Perez.
Cazorla’s penalty wrapped up a convincing victory for Wenger’s men, as chants of ‘there’s only one Arsene Wenger’ rang out around The Emirates.
“Look, we won 4-1 at Galatasaray and won 4-1 tonight and we lost, unfortunately, at Stoke and we feel guilty for that,” said Wenger.
“But 99.9 per cent it is people with full respect even when they’re not happy. I can take the 0.1 per cent of criticism.
“Yes, of course, I’m thankful for the fans singing my name at the end of the match, but what you want is for our fans to be happy because we win football fans.
“My job is to win football games and when I don’t do it I understand when they’re not happy.”
Wenger was also pleased with his side’s overall display at Emirates Stadium,
“We had the dynamic that we wanted to have,” he said. “Scoring early helped because we knew Newcastle had slow starts as well but are very strong in the second half.
“I think the crowd was behind the team, at some stage a little bit edgy, but overall I think we controlled quite well the game.”
