Papiss Cisse scored a second-half double as Newcastle United’s 2-0 win ended Chelsea’s unbeaten Premier League run.

The Senegal striker scored within four minutes of his introduction and the Newcastle number nine doubled their lead shortly after, before Didier Drogba netted what proved to be a consolation.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to Chelsea’s first defeat in 15 league outings this season.

Former Blues and Magpies manager Ruud Gullit (@GullitR) reckons the Magpies fully merit their win: “OMG. i must say that #newcastle played it well. great goal”

Toon legend Mick Quinn (@mickquinn1089) enjoys a wry tweet: “#CISSE NUFC 2-0 UNBEATABLES”

Ex-Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas (@jjenas8) warns the Magpies not to get carried away: “You can never write off the great teams let’s see what Chelsea’s got! Drogba gets them back in it with a trademark header!”

England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) comes up with a new name for Chelsea: “Chelsea: The Inconceivables!”

Rodney Marsh (@RodneyMarsh10): “What a cracking match. Great start to super Saturday – Didn’t see any Pardew Out signs today….”

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shaka Hislop (@ShakaHislop) praises the Newcastle debutant: “Well played Mr. Alnwick, well played. Any keeper in the world would be happy with that as a debut.”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) has some humble pie for lunch: “Should have done that Jose column when they were playing an easy home game! Title race back on if City get the 3 points!! I know the title race wasn’t over but 6 points and the difference between the 2 this season was a worry they would run away with it.”

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour (@RealRomfordPele) speaks too soon in light of Peter Crouch’s early strike at The Britannia: “Really enjoyed watching Chelsea this season. But delighted they got beat today. Still big Fav for the league #invincible #gooners”

Newcastle defender Kyle Cameron (@Kylecam54) hails St James’s Park: “What an atmosphere today!”

Finally, Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05): “Didn’t see that result coming for Chelsea. But without doubt Matic is their most important player.”
