‘Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois better than Man United hero David De Gea’
Alan McInally says David De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world
Thibaut Courtois is better than Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, according to Tony Gayle.
The Spaniard has been earning rave reviews in recent weeks following his performances against Arsenal, Southampton, Stoke and Liverpool.
On another day, Liverpool score three goals and Manchester United hold their hands up
But former West Ham defender Gayle still ranks Chelsea number one Courtois ahead of the ever-improving United shot stopper.
“He is up there with the world’s best but I wouldn’t put him as the world’s best,” Gayle told Sky Sports.
“I think the Chelsea goalkeeper, who isn’t playing at the moment and has had a couple of days off [is better].
“Courtois was absolutely brilliant for Atletico Madrid last season.
“This season, although he hasn’t had much to do, that is the making of a goalkeeper. His concentration, his kicking, his distribution and he comes for more goalkeepers.”
Former Aston Villa striker Alan McInally heaped praise on De Gea after the 24-year-old made eight saves to help United to wrap up a 3-0 victory over Liverpool on Sunday.
“He was absolutely sensational. On another day, Liverpool score three goals and Manchester United hold their hands up. Some of the saves were absolutely superb,” McInally added.
“He is up there. He had a shaky start at the beginning. It is a big football club to come to considering some of the goalkeepers that they’ve had there.
“He has been fantastic.”
