Galatasaray 1 Arsenal 4: Wenger questioned Ramsey shot
The Arsenal manager had less faith than his midfielder before his stunning 30-yard volley
Arsene Wenger admitted that he questioned Aaron Ramsey’s decision to shoot from distance before the midfielder’s stunning 30-yard strike helped Arsenal to a 4-1 win at Galatasaray on Tuesday.
With Arsenal leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Lukas Podolski and Ramsey, the Wales international added his second of the night with a sensational volley in the 29th minute.
Wesley Sneijder pulled one back for the home side with two minutes to go, before Podolski wrapped up a convincing win with a fourth in stoppage time.
Asked for his reaction to Ramsey’s stunning goal, Wenger replied: “When he took the shot I thought that was maybe not the best of ideas, but the way it went in was absolutely unbelievable.
“The goals he is scoring is linked to his performances at the moment and that certainly helps his confidence, to score goals like that.”
With their passage to the last 16 of the Champions League already secure before Tuesday’s game, the result was not enough to earn the Gunners top spot in their group after Borussia Dortmund’s 1-1 draw with Anderlecht.
