Jerzy Dudek doesn’t believe Liverpool can build a team around struggling striker Mario Balotelli.

The Reds finished as Premier League runners-up last season as Brendan Rodgers managed to get the best out of Uruguay international Luis Suarez, who scored 31 goals in 33 games.

However, former Liverpool goalkeeper Dudek reckons Balotelli isn’t good enough to warrant Rodgers adjusting his Reds side to play to the Italian striker’s strengths.

“You can build a team around a player like they did last year like they did with Suarez. I don’t think you can build this team around Balotelli. Everything depends on himself,” Dudek said.

Dudek, who helped Liverpool win the Champions League in 2005, added that Balotelli is the only man that can help himself despite the best intentions of his manager and team-mates.

“This is down to Balotelli,” Dudek added. “Nobody can help. The coach and players want to help him. He wanted to prove that he is the right man. It is actually down to him to be the main [man].”
