Jose Mourinho has insisted that Andre Schurrle remains in his Chelsea plans despite his recent lack of playing time.

The Germany international has only started four Premier League games this season but scored as the Blues beat Sporting Lisbon 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Schurrle returned from international duty in October with an illness which took him some time to recover from.

And although Mourinho insists that the World Cup winner is still an important part of his squad, he called on the forward to “adapt better”.

“Andre Schurrle is in my plans when he’s in top form. He came back from Germany duty very ill. It’s taken him time to recover.

“He needs to adapt better to the Premier League.”
